A customer asked for advice on creating a different printed effect for a Grand Opening Invitation project. The goal was to print a unique look that would stand out from the ordinary and leave a lasting impression. Her design was a beautiful, full color, hot air balloon with an elegant type face for the text. After meeting together and discussing a variety of print processes BCT offers, we decided on using thermography (raised ink printing). Thermography is a unique, affordable print process offered by very few printers in the US. Thermography uses a powder resin that is added to the top of the ink of the printed document, then heated to where the powder and ink mixture dries to form a raised image on the paper. The result was a brilliant color hot air balloon that elevated off the paper. The invitations looked beautifully custom and our customer was extremely satisfied.
Thermography printing has many unique advantages. It gives the printed image an elevated appearance adding dimension and polished texture to the printed project. The process of thermography printing is also dry when it comes off the press allowing for very fast delivery. Thermography can be combined with other printing processes such as offset and foil embossing. It can be used with one or two individual colors and available with full color. The most commonly used products for raised printing are business cards, stationery products like letterhead, envelopes, announcements and report covers.
